COMINGS AND GOINGS

It has been a busy Spring so far and the shelter is completely full, with several dogs in foster care as well. Now that the warm weather is here and folks are getting out and about, we are hoping to see an increase in adoptions.

Because of the large number of animals to be spayed and neutered, Vet bills have been much higher than normal, and any donations, however small, to help towards these major expenses would be gratefully received.

Click onto our Success stories and share with us the many pictures and messages we receive from families who have adopted TLC shelter animals.

KEEPING UP WITH LILY

In a previous newsletter we told you about Lily Mackie, a Grade 4 student at Champlain Elementary School in Annapolis and fundraiser extraordinaire. Lily’s goal is to raise one million pennies for TLC!! And this determined youngster is off to a flying start.

Our first ever GOLD DOG AWARD goes to Lily, a special award reserved to recognize anyone who is doing something very special for our shelter. Click onto the Gold Dog Award link on the home page and keep count with Lily. We’ll be posting regular updates on this page about the number of pennies collected so far, as the community gets behind Lily to help her reach her goal.

PAYPAL

We’ve introduced a new convenient way to make donations to the shelter
using email through Paypal. Click here for instructions. If you have any queries, just send us an email and we’ll get right back to you.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

To walk dogs, care for cats, help with fundraising.............If anyone can spare an hour or two a week, please phone our shelter Manager Dorothy Andrews at 902-245-2303.

TLC AND THE COMMUNITY

We have appreciated the hard work of students this Spring, who have volunteered their time on Saturday mornings, either as part of a school project or simply because they love to work with animals. With so many animals to care for, their hard work and youthful enthusiasm is very welcome.

Grade 5 students at Digby Elementary went all out on a Valentines Day Fund-Raiser, presenting the shelter with a wonderful collection of pet food, toys, beds and treats. Boots the kitten and TLC volunteers enjoyed a visit to the school to meet the students and answer their questions about the shelter. An end of year visit to the shelter is planned next month when the children will have a chance to meet all the animals they worked so hard to help.

NOTES FOR YOUR CALENDAR

THE ANNUAL MOTORCYCLE RIDE FOR PETS will be held on Sunday August 12th this year. Organized by the 74th Crusaders this is a great Fund Raising event. Members of the club and their guests tour the local area and afterwards enjoy a barbeque back at the shelter. Thanks to the generosity of these caring folks, much need funds are raised to help us through the summer.

YARD SALES will be held on several Sundays at Gates Equipment just outside of Digby - dates will be posted.

SPONSOR A DOG OR CAT

Our pet sponsorship scheme lets you sponsor an animal of your choice for as little as $5.00 a month. To find our more about this great program just give us a call at the shelter at  902-245-2303.
